About the Area
Marulan is more than a truck stop. Just a few kilometres from the main highway is a township ‘rearing to go’ with renewed vigour. The wide main street with its town and country vehicles, angled parked is dotted with historic buildings dating from its early beginnings in the early 1800’s.
The main train line to Melbourne as we know it today used to end at Marulan. Cobb & Co coaches then carried the mail service south & west. Marulan was for a time the depot for Cobb & Co coaches..When the new railway line was constructed, it passed north of the original town. The railway workers and their families established a settlement close to the new railway line. Eventually a town sub-division called Mooroowoolen was created by a land owner.
For many years and until recentaly Marulan village was surrounded by large farming areas. In recent times these farms have begun to be sub-divided into smaller rural areas and sold off to newcomers seeking a change in lifestyle. This has resulted in many new small rural and associated business being established in marulan and surrounding villages.
